Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-8 for their eighth straight win

This is why Brian McCann came back to play for his hometown Atlanta Braves(cheap Atlanta Braves championship rings) , to deliver with his bat in a big spot. "That was one of the best moments I've ever had," McCann said. "To be able to get the win and the fashion that it happened is something I'll always remember." McCann capped Atlanta's three-run ninth inning with a two-run single off Hector Neris, and the Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-8 on Friday night for their eighth straight win.

Atlanta improved to 23-9 since May 10 and opened a 2 1/2-game lead over Philadelphia in the NL East. It was the first game between the division rivals since the Phillies swept three games from the Braves in late March. Most of the sellout crowd of 41,975, the largest of the season at SunTrust Park, stood on its feet after Dansby Swanson led off the ninth with a single. Nick Markakis walked with two outs, and Swanson scored on rookie Austin Riley's double. McCann then reached down and drove an opposite-field single into the gap in left-center, giving him 1,000 RBI for his career.

McCann, a seven-time All-Star who grew up in the Atlanta (championship sports rings) suburbs, spent the last five seasons in the AL, but decided to return to the team that drafted him so he could help the Braves win a World Series. "This is home for me," he said. "This town, this city means a lot to me. It's where I grew up. To be able to come back home and do this is right up there with one of the best moments I've ever had." He compared this year's Braves to his former club in Houston, which won the World Series in 2017.

"It's very special," McCann said. "I just think the way we show up every day. The way guys go about their business, to the preparation, we show up ready to win every single day." Neris (1-3) was attempting to go 15 for 15 in save chances this year, but couldn't find the formula on his 30th birthday. He recorded two outs and allowed three hits in Philadelphia's fourth loss in five games. "I have the highest level of trust in him in that situation," manager Gabe Kapler said. "We felt really good in the dugout about it. It's just a devastating loss. We'll lick our wounds, come back and be ready to fight again." Jerry Blevins (1-0) pitched the ninth for the win. Bryce Harper and Rhys Hoskins each hit a two-run homer for the Phillies, and Scott Kingery added a solo drive.

Philadelphia (cheap Philadelphia Phillies championship rings) dropped to 34-7 this season when scoring at least four runs. It had won 15 of its last 17 previous such games. Harper, booed all night long, put Philadelphia up 3-1 in the third with his 12th homer, which sailed into the Atlanta bullpen in right-center. Kingery's eighth homer landed in the left-field seats in the fourth. Hoskins' 15th homer, coming off Dan Winkler, made it 7-2 in the seventh. Kingery, who went 3 for 4, doubled in the eighth and scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-4.

Phillies (mlb championship rings for sale) starter Nick Pivetta allowed four runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. Atlanta starter Max Fried was chased with two outs in the fifth. He was charged with five runs and seven hits, leaving him with a 7.52 ERA in his last four starts. McCann, Freddie Freeman and Josh Donaldson each hit a solo shot for the Braves. Ozzie Albies and Ronald Acuna Jr. each had two hits.

New York Yankees VS New York Mets June 11, 2019

"It's crazy, man," he said after his tiebreaking three-run homer off Zack Wheeler in a five-run fourth inning led the New York Yankees (cheap New York Yankees championship rings)over the Mets 12-5 Tuesday in the opener of a day-night Subway Series doubleheader.

Voit has 30 home runs in 102 games since the Yankees (mlb world series championship rings) acquired him from St. Louis last July 28 for pitchers Chasen Shreve and Giovanny Gallegos. The 28-year-old took over at first base from the repeatedly injured Greg Bird and has 16 homers this year. He is the leader at his position in the first results of fan voting for All-Star starters. "This team is giving me a lot of confidence to go out and do my job every day," he said. "It's just having fun in the locker room. I never feel like I'm a deadbeat." He made his big league debut with St. Louis in 2017 but was stuck behind Matt Carpenter and then Jose Martinez. Voit spent parts of five seasons in the Cardinals minor league season but had just five home runs in 70 games in the big leagues at the time of the trade.

"There's nothing worse than when you're in the minor leagues and you're hitting good, too, and you're just stuck," he said. "There's been multiple guys throughout the history of baseball that have been in that same situation, and for me to finally get a chance, you don't want to ever look back on it and you want to roll with it." Gio Urshela hit a tying, two-run homer in the fourth, had four RBI and was a triple short of the cycle, ending a stretch of 15 at-bats without a hit. Gary Sanchez had three RBI and tied for the AL lead with his 20th home run, a two-run drive against Tim Peterson in the eighth. Masahiro Tanaka (4-5) gave up a three-run homer to Jeff McNeil that put the Mets ahead 4-1 in the third but rebounded to win for the first time in a month.

James Paxton (3-2) was set to start the second game for the Yankees (championship sports rings) and Jason Vargas (2-3) for the Mets in a matchup of left-handers. Less than one-quarter of the seats were filled for the start of the makeup of Monday night's rainout. Despite brilliant sunshine on the late spring afternoon, the usual crowd buzz for the matchup of New York rivals was absent. "There was a lot of Mets fans here," Voit said. "You could hear the guys in the stands giving us trouble. It was entertaining." Third baseman Todd Frazier made a throwing error on a two-out grounder in the fourth. After a walk, Voit's homer on a slider put the Yankees ahead. The Yankees made three errors and the Mets two. "It's on me. The end of that inning is on me," Frazier said. Pitching on six days' rest after the birth of his daughter Friday and the rainout, Tanaka allowed five runs -- four earned -- and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. He had been 0-2 in four starts since winning May 12 at Tampa Bay.

The Mets (custom New York Mets championship rings) have lost 18 of their last 22 road games, At 32-34, they have not been over .500 since May 3. Wheeler (5-4) gave up a career-high nine runs -- five earned -- and 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings. Coming off a five-hit shutout of San Francisco, he has not won consecutive starts this year, and his 13 home runs allowed are one shy of his 2018 total. "My slider wasn't very good today. The changeup wasn't really working," Wheeler said. "The fastball was about the only thing going for me."

Phillies' lead soon disappeared in a 4-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds

Bryce Harper was about 45 feet down the line and had Phillies fans on their feet as he took off for a straight steal of home . With the Phillies ahead by a run and slugger Rhys Hoskins at the plate, Harper thought the gamble was worth the payoff. Harper dashed on right-hander Sonny Gray's fastball and slid into home , out in a puff of dirt on the tag by Curt Casali.

Harper's hustle in third inning had backfired -- and the Phillies' lead soon disappeared in a 4-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds (cheap Cincinnati Reds championship rings) on Sunday. "I had a good read, good jump," Harper said. "I think if I just slid headfirst, got my hand in there a little bit, it probably would have been better. I probably should know if my guy has a take sign or not just in case he swings and puts one right in my face." Joey Votto tied the game for Cincinnati with a two-out single in the seventh inning and Eugenio Suarez followed with the go-ahead hit to rally the Reds and avoid a three-game sweep. "Just a lot of good things happened today to be able to win that game," Reds manager David Bell said . Harper got tangled up in a pair of plays at the plate, scoring from second on a misplayed popup but getting thrown out on an attempted steal of home.

Trailing 1-0, the Phillies (cheap Philadelphia Phillies championship rings) loaded the bases with two outs in the third against Grey. Hoskins hit a routine popup to first base that Votto appeared to lose in the sun. The ball plopped untouched on the field, and Maikel Franco scored from third and Harper from second. Harper initially was called out by plate umpire, but Harper got his right leg to the plate between the legs of catcher Casali's legs and was ruled safe after a video review. Jean Segura's sacrifice fly in the fifth made it 3-1. With two outs and Hoskins up, Harper broke for the plate and was tagged out by Casali. When Harper was a rookie with Washington in 2012, Harper stole home on Cole Hamels after the Phillies lefty drilled him in the game.

The Phillies (championship rings for sale) weren't pleased with this attempt, either. "He has been very aggressive on the bases and he's won some games for us with his aggressive baserunning," Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said. "He and I spoke about it and he understands that was a little overaggressive." Harper has won over the fans and helped put the Phillies in first place in the NL East with his hard-charging style, and won't change his attitude toward taking the extra base just because of one miscue. "I just like to run bases. I like to run, even when I was younger. I like to try to make plays on the bags, play the game hard," he said. "I've said it in the past, my teammates expect that out of me, these fans, this city as well. I expect it out of myself. Try to play hard each day." Raisel Iglesias allowed the potential tying run to reach on first base in the ninth but tossed a scoreless inning for his 13th save in 14 chances. Zach Duke (3-1) pitched one-third of an inning, helping stop Philadelphia's four-game winning streak. Harper had a chance to tie the game in the eighth but he struck out against Amir Garrett.

Hoskins drove in two runs for the Phillies (mlb championship rings) on the misplayed popup. Aaron Nola tossed four-hit ball over 6 2/3 innings as he tried to follow teammate Nick Pivetta with a second straight complete game for the Phillies. Pivetta struck out six in his first career complete game on Saturday. Nola led 3-1 when he was chased after 6 2/3 innings with two on. Jose Alvarez (0-2) gave up a single that loaded the bases, and Votto lined a two-run that tied the game at 3-all. Suarez followed with a single off Vince Velasquez came in and gave up the go-ahead single to Suarez to make it 4-3.

Galvis, Grichuk HR as Jays end 6-game skid, beat Yankees 4-3

A rare off night by the offense left the New York Yankees (New York Yankees championship rings) back-to-back losers for the first time in more than a month. Freddy Galvis hit a two-run home run, Randal Grichuk added a solo shot and the Toronto Blue Jays held off New York 4-3 Tuesday night to end a season-worst six-game slide. "We needed that one," Galvis said

Clint Frazier and Aaron Hicks homered for the AL East-leading Yankees, whose last consecutive defeats came April 30 and May 1 at Arizona. The Yankees (mlb championship rings for sale) lost 8-5 to Boston on Sunday. New York failed to score at least four runs for the first time in 15 games, a streak that began May 19. The Yankees went 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on base. "We weren't able to score enough," manager Aaron Boone said. Toronto closer Ken Giles struck out Gleyber Torres with two on in the ninth to wrap his 11th save, and Eric Sogard had three hits as the Blue Jays won for the first time since beating San Diego on May 26. Toronto went winless on a six-game trip to Tampa Bay and Colorado. "It's a lot better when we win," Blue Jays pitcher Clayton Richard said. "It's a lot more fun. We can listen to music and have a good time together."

The Blue Jays (championship rings for sale) scored just three total runs in their final two losses in Colorado, but they topped that with a four-run fifth against right-hander Masahiro Tanaka. Tanaka (3-5) lost his second straight start, allowing four runs and six hits in six innings. "The home run ball hurt him on a couple of hanging sliders," Boone said. "That was kind of the difference tonight." Daniel Hudson (4-2) pitched 1 1/3 innings and Giles got the final four outs. Frazier opened the scoring with a two-run drive off left-hander Clayton Richard in the fourth, his 11th. Earlier in the day, Frazier expressed a mix of defiance and remorse in his first public comments since three defensive mistakes in the last innings of a loss to Boston last weekend.

Frazier said his homer "felt good," and was "much-needed," but denied using the discussion around him as fuel. "I don't need motivation through articles that are written," he said. Grichuk halved the deficit with a leadoff drive in the fifth, his 10th. Cavan Biggio followed with a walk and was initially ruled out on an attempted steal of second, but the call was overturned following a video review. One batter later, Galvis gave the Blue Jays the lead with his ninth home run. He is blast snapped an 0-for-16 slump. Sogard hit a two-out double and made it 4-2 when he scored on a base hit by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

"Any time you beat teams like that, they're big wins," Blue Jays (Toronto Blue Jays championship rings for sale) manager Charlie Montoyo said. "You have to play your A-game and we did tonight." Hicks homered off Joe Biagini in the eighth, his second.

Brewers top Pirates 4-2

Zach Davies wanted a shot at becoming the first Milwaukee pitcher in two years to toss a complete game. So with the Brewers nursing a two-run lead heading into the ninth on Sunday in Pittsburgh (cheap Pittsburgh Pirates championship rings), Davies went to manager Craig Counsell and pleaded his case. "I told him that I had it," Davies said. "He thought twice and gave me the opportunity." It was one of the few missteps Davies made on a day the Brewers desperately needed to give their bullpen a break. Though Davies' bid for going nine full innings for the first time in his career ended when he allowed a leadoff double to Colin Moran in the ninth, he improved to 6-0 when reliever Corbin Burnes wriggled free of a two-on, one out jam to give Milwaukee a 4-2 win.

A day after a marathon 12-10 victory in 13 innings -- one that took nearly 5 1/2 hours and required six Milwaukee pitchers to lock down -- Davies and two relievers needed just 2 hours, 41 minutes to give the Brewers their third win in four games in their first meeting with the Pirates this season. "You pitch into the eighth inning or the ninth inning on days after extra-inning games, it's just so huge," Counsell said. "They're just really valuable performances. He was awesome today." The Brewers -- who rely on their relievers by design as much as any team in the majors -- haven't had a complete game since Jimmy Nelson threw one against San Diego on June 18, 2017. Davies' work on Sunday came on the same day Milwaukee announced Nelson will return to the rotation on Wednesday against Miami, ending a long recovery from right shoulder surgery that cut short Nelson's breakout season two years ago. "I remember Jimmy's last one, he was the last guy for us," said Davies, who struck out three and walked one while his ERA rose slightly to 2.20. "You do want to add your name to that list, but at the same time, you want to go out there and have a quality game. When you have the opportunity, then it sinks in."

Pittsburgh (mlb championship rings for sale) had chances. The Pirates led off three innings with doubles and another on a single and a two-base error but managed to get just two runs out of it on a day they went 0 for 12 with runners in scoring position. "An experienced pitcher staying with his plan, making pitches, using sinker down and away and throwing changeup in some offensive counts, we weren't able to do damage," Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said. Eric Thames hit a two-run homer and an RBI double for Milwaukee. Thames sent a pitch from Jordan Lyles (5-3) into the right-field seats in the third inning, then drove home Keston Hiura with a drive to the left-center gap in the fourth.

"I had Thames in a couple positions where we felt really good and I wasn't able to make pitches from that point on," Lyles said. Lyles has been one of the few constants in Pittsburgh's injury-riddled starting rotation. He made his 11th start of the season as scheduled five days after exiting a loss to Cincinnati with discomfort in his left hamstring. While Lyles stressed the hamstring was not an issue, he allowed at least one base runner in five of his six innings and Thames pounced on his mistakes. Thames' seventh home run of the season just cleared the 21-foot high Clemente Wall in right field to put Milwaukee in front 3-0. An inning later Thames sent a liner that rolled to the notch in left-center, giving Hiura time to score all the way from first.

It was all the support Davies would need. Kevin Newman hit a sacrifice fly in the third to put Pittsburgh (championship rings for sale) on the board and Bell added an RBI groundout but otherwise the Pirates did little. Lyles, a teammate of Davies' last season while working out of Milwaukee's bullpen, admired Davies' work even as he couldn't quite match it. "He fills up the strike zone," Lyles said. "He did his job today, did it really well. He's one of the best pitchers in the National League this year for a reason." Pittsburgh put two runners on in the ninth thanks to Moran's double and a catcher's interference call against Manny Pina -- his second of the day. But Burnes entered and struck out pinch-hitter Elias Diaz before getting Newman to ground out to second to wrap up his first save of the season and second of his career.
